PET PASSPORTS ISSUED IN GB ARE NO LONGER VALID FOR TRAVEL TO THE EU OR NOTHERN IRELAND
Requirements for pets travelling to EU or Northern Ireland:
Please phone us as soon as possible to arrange an appointment for your AHC as they are complex documents that take a considerable amount of time to complete and only certain vets are qualified to sign them. To make the process easier, we have produced an application form for owners to complete and return to us prior to the AHC appointment.
What you need to bring for your appointment:
The animal health certificate is valid after the date of issue for:
Your pet will need a new animal health certificate for each trip to an EU country or Northern Ireland from GB

Requirements for pets travelling to EU or Northern Ireland:
- A microchip placed or read before any rabies vaccination
- A valid rabies vaccination given at least 21 days before certification and when the pet was at least 12 weeks of age
- An animal health certificate (AHC) to be obtained no more than 10 days before travel (unless you have a pet passport issued in an EU country or Northern Ireland). ·
- Tapeworm treatment for dogs if you’re travelling directly to Finland, Ireland, Norway, Northern Ireland, or Malta

- 4 months for onward travel within the EU
- 4 months for re-entry into GB
